Day 1. Arrival (free day and excursion in Irkutsk)

Depending on the flight, I will meet you at the airport and accompany you to the hotel. If you wish, you can take a stroll through the historic city center.

Overnight stay in Irkutsk.

Day 2. Listvyanka

A varied day awaits you in Listvyanka with three exciting options: at the Taltsy open-air museum, you can discover authentic wooden buildings from the 17th to 19th centuries and learn more about life in Eastern Siberia. The interactive Baikal Museum offers fascinating insights into the nature, geology, and wildlife of Lake Baikal. Or you can opt for a dog sled ride through the snow-covered taiga – a real winter adventure with huskies in the middle of the Siberian landscape.

Day 3. A hovercraft trip to the Olkhon Island

300 km by hovercraft to Olkhon Island – a spectacular winter adventure across the ice. On the way, we visit picturesque Pestchanaya Bay and other impressive places along the west coast, including secluded bays, bizarre rock formations, and viewpoints overlooking frozen Lake Baikal.

Day 4. UAZ vehicle tour to cape Khoboi

A winter excursion to the northern part of Olkhon Island includes travel in a UAZ vehicle across the frozen surface of Lake Baikal, where ice thickness in March can reach up to 70 cm. The route features stops at Kharantsy village, the Three Brothers rock formation, and Cape Khoboy. Along the way, ice grottoes, icicle-covered cliffs, and a small island embedded in the ice are observed. The journey offers striking views of Baikal’s frozen landscapes.

Day 5. Excursion to the south of the island. Drive to Irkutsk.

Today we continue our winter adventure on Olkhon. We explore the southern region of the island in a Russian UAZ off-road vehicle. The route takes us across the ice of the Small Sea to impressive places such as Ogoj Island with its Buddhist chapel. Along the way, we discover bizarre rock formations, frozen caves, and spectacular viewpoints overlooking the winter panorama of Lake Baikal.

After the southern Baikal ice tour, the journey continues back to Irkutsk, arriving in the city by evening.

Day 6. Departure

Take a plane from Irkutsk.


Possible Additions to the Winter Program at Lake Baikal

Option 1: Snowmobile Tour

An exhilarating adventure across the frozen surface of Lake Baikal or through snow-covered forests. With two people per snowmobile, the route winds through silent winter landscapes, past frozen bays or deep into the taiga — an unforgettable experience for adrenaline enthusiasts.

Option 2: Excursion to the Snow-Covered Mountains (Khamar-Daban Range)

A full-day trip to the snow-covered mountains in the southern part of Lake Baikal. The Khamar-Daban region is renowned for its pristine nature and fairytale-like winter scenery. A guided hike through the snowy forest offers a close-up experience of the serene beauty of the Siberian wilderness.

Option 3: Ice Trekking on Lake Baikal

Ideal for those seeking an active winter experience, this tour involves trekking for several hours a day along the crystal-clear ice near the lake’s shoreline, accompanied by an experienced guide. Overnight stays are arranged in warm, cozy wooden houses in small villages or along the coast. Entering Russia

Please check the required documents to enter Russia:

  • valid tourist visa if required. For some countries it is now possible to enter with an e-visa for 16 days.
  • travel passport, valid for at least 6 months on departure
  • travel insurance

There are direct flights to Irkutsk from Moscow, Bangkok, Hanoi and Beijing. There are also possible connections via Istanbul, Antalya, Tashkent and Bishkek airports, etc.

Other information

This program can be organized and guaranteed in February and early March. There are fewer tourists in November, December and January, but the lake is not completely frozen. In these months it is possible to visit some bays with clear ice, and the program will be made individually depending on the ice condition.

This trip can be customized for you. Other dates are possible on request. The tour price depends on the group size, duration and period of travel.
